How to Behave and Why by Munro Leaf

In a time when all the rules for raising children have been redefined dozens of times, here is a book for bewildered parents from a simpler time when we all agreed on what was right and what was wrong. First published in 1946, Munro Leaf's How To Behave And Why gives touchingly sincere yet gently funny lessons in Honesty, Fairness, Strength, and Wisdom. Originally intended for the very young, but with meaning for us all, How To Behave and Why is a true classic, charmingly illustrated with childlike drawings, and with a timeless message. It is a sure guide for teaching children and adults how to behave. Horrible book and NOT for this age range.
"Aimed at baby to preschool age (according to Land of Nod) this book includes lovely ditties like "only a dope will tell a lie" , "that is a stupid way to live" , "neither is the lazy lump who never shares.", "of course you can argue with people who know better than you, but it's stupid." and "(adults) know a lot more than you do and if you are bright you will do everything they tell you to do."
Overall, the books "message" is ... umm... well just clouded by statements like the above. I find it ironic to have a book about how to behave that calls names and gives foolish advice. This book is 100% NOT NOT NOT for the baby-preschool age range (you might be able to make it work for a 6-7-8 year old , but even then the wording in this book is in very poor taste).
The worst purchase I've made in a long time (and I buy a lot online). I've already contacted the company to arrange a return."

I too hated this book

Difficult to read, poorly written and full of vulgar insults. The only nice thing about the book is the cover. So don't judge this one by the cover and move on. I gave this book to the library hoping others will check it out rather than make the mistake of buying it.

Great lessons in this book
"This is a great book to teach your kids why behaving is important. It teaches things lighlty, but in a manner that explains how behavior affects others and why it is important. We love this book!"
