A Color of His Own By Leo Lionni

Elephants are gray. Pigs are pink. Only the chameleon has no color of his own. He is purple like the heather, yellow like a lemon, even black and orange striped like a tiger! Then one day a chameleon has an idea to remain one color forever by staying on the greenest leaf he can find. But in the autumn, the leaf changes from green to yellow to red... and so does the chameleon. When another chameleon suggests they travel together, he learns that companionship is more important than having a color of his own. No matter where he goes with his new friend, they will always be alike. Got this book for my son with Cerebral palsy
"This is such a special book. To us the meaning of it is so much more. My husband and I bought it while our son was very sick last month and in the Seattle children's hospital. Our son has cerebral palsy and children often stare and make mean comments about him, this book symbolizes that our son is different and stands out, but that it's a good thing and to be proud of the person he is regardless of his appearance."

It's good to be me!
"I love the water color pictures and the story in this book is so sweet."--
"Determined to be one color, he finds a green leaf and stays there. But as the seasons change, so does the leaf, and so does the chameleon! When he befriends another chameleon, he realizes they will always be the same color if they stick together. This new found friendship is far more meaningful than anything else."
--"I Love it!

My two-year-old can "read" this book along with me
"Both my 4 and 2-year-olds love this book! It's a sweet story, with beautiful pictures. I don't like that the noted colors are not always accurate as I think it's important to show the true color when children are learning the differences between red and orange, etc. but the story has a good theme and my 2-year-old has listened to it so many times he can "read" it along with me."

Great Book for Babies and Tots
"I received this book off of my registry as a gift. The story itself has a moral and teaches older children a lesson about being true to oneself and appreciating one's individuality through bright photos, happy words and images.
The colors and pictures are GREAT for a little one's eyes and exposure to reading early on.
I recommend the book highly. It's a gem.

Charming
"This is a charming book about a chameleon who tries to find his own identity and makes a lifelong friend. Also teaches colors. I don't get tired of reading this one. My 2 1/2 year old has it memorized - so cute to hear her "reading" it."
