"We were thrilled when our son managed to pick up the Winkel toy at 8-9 weeks. We thought he was brilliant, of course. He then began to play with the toy holding it in both hands and bringing it to his mouth at 10 weeks.
He's a little over 3 months now and this is his favorite toy. Their little hands get caught (not in a bad way) in the soft rings at first, so they pick it up by accident. This probably gives them idea that their hands can do something!
Another great thing about this toy is that it is softer than most. their hands are a little wild, so our son has picked up other toys and whacked himself in the face. That's horrible for a new mom to see.

A great first toy

"This is a great toy for an infant since it is so light weight and doesn't have anything that would hurt when it hits the baby in the face. It is also a great chew toy. I even find myself picking it out of the toybox and fidgeting with it."

"I received this at my son's baby shower. and he's used it as a rattle since he was a few months old. now, he still picks it up from time to time.. to throw around (the kid has a great arm!). I am happy because of all the bands around it, it doesn't hurt if it hits you!"

"My daughter was able to grasp this toy from a very young age due to all the thin plastic tubes. It was the first toy she could hold, long before plush rattles and other "first toys". And at eight months, she's still playing with it. As a bonus, it can be put in the dishwasher for easy cleaning."

"Although I am still pregnant, I tested this out with my 7 month old nephew and he just loved it! The colors are bright and really stimulate the child, it is easy for them to hold on to, and of course, chew on, since they like to put everything into their mouths!"

cute but not the most entertaining teether

"I think this is a great looking teether but after my son's first look at it, he really wasn't that interested in playing with it or teeting on it. I don't think that the plastic is "tough" enough to massage his gums. However it didn't occur to me to put it in the freezer or frigerator so I'll try that."

"Both of our little ones really enjoy this toy--it's so engaging with the colors. It seems to fit lots of stages--from the first few times babies like to reach out and grab things, through the teething stage (soft and easy to chew), to the development of hand-eye coordination. It's safe, compact, works well hanging or in the car. Spans quite a length of time. Our toddler still likes it!"

"This was the first toy that our daughter "picked out". We held 2 toys in front of her and this was the one she reached for. She can easily grab onto it and the plastic loops are soft so she doesn't hurt herself when she hits herself in the face. It cleans up so easily when she spits up and it easliy links to the stroller so it doesn't fall on the ground!"

"I just got this in the mail and it's already a hit with my 3.5 month old. I got it because I saw my friends 4 month old baby playing with it; grabing it, gumming it and holding it. I was fascinated that a small baby was so in to a toy! It really is great."

This toy is a "must take" !!

"This toy is a "must take" because I was always reminding my husband, nanny and helpers that we "must take" this toy wherever we went with our triplets. Easy to grasp and colorful, this rattle stimulated our babies for hours on end. Small enough to fit in a diaper bag and stoller pocket, it 's easy to take anywhere. Oh, and it attaches to colorful plastic rings so that it doesn't get tossed out of the stroller by little hands. When it got yucky with spitup (they were always putting it n their mouth), we would just rinse it off and it was as good as new. I purchased about five of these rattles as baby gifts for my girlfriends and they too raved about it."

"At first we were not convinced this would work as a teething toy. But after talking to a salesperson, we gave it a try. Our daughter loved it! She clamped right on and gummed away. When she wasn't chewing on it, she was shaking it, pulling it and stretching it. She loved this toy!"
