Seems good but some issues
"We purchased the hutch and drawer base in espresso. Overall the quality seems good. The back is engineered wood, but the rest is solid. Two issues; first is the drawer appears to be too small for the base frame. We called about this and they promptly mailed us a new one. We still have yet to assemble it, but I hope we won't have a problem this time. Second thing is that the bookcase came with a scratch on the top front shelf which is large enough to notice it when you walk by. My husband doesn't want to deal with de-assembling again and dealing with the whole shipping back/assembling again for the top piece since we already had to do it for the bottom. I hope a stain on the scratch will hide it."

Perfect! Works great with Bin Base

"We purchased the espresso cube bookcase and the espresso bin base separately and stacked. They work perfectly together and even came with hardware to secure them together on the back side (even though they're not listed anywhere together-great job Nod folks for figuring out what I was trying to do). They are beautiful, spacious and durable: the bin gets a lot of ware and hasn't shown any signs. We needed something for my 15 month old's toys, stuffed animals, books, keepsakes and iPod speakers that play sleep sounds. It all fits and there is room to spare. I love how my son is able to help me clean up by tossing toys in the bin. So helpful! The shelving is tall enough to store some things out of reach: books for when he's older, keepsakes and electronic equipment. It's a great piece to grow with him. Best room purchase hands down."

great looking storage
"This storage unit looks great. We had quality issues with the first one and were sent another. Assembly was a bit of a pain. Good for the money spent. I wish the drawer was a bit more user friendly for little people."

Great Storage System
"We got this exact picture and it works great to keep everything organized and tidy. Much better than the plastic bins we were using. One thing I have to say is that it looks like the drawers don't exactly match. Looks like one is painted and the other is stained, the colors are just off and you can definitely tell."

Quality is subpar
"I love the overall look of these drawers and hutches, but the quality is seriously lacking.
We ordered two bases and hutches. The two drawer bases are different colors. We figured they were close enough that it wasn't worth the hassle of sending them back, but I'm regretting that now. The difference is quite noticeable and it drives me crazy.
In addition to that, the edges of the bases get nicked very easily. We rarely open the drawers, and our son is still little and immobile (therefore not handing them), so it's surprising that they're looking as rough as they are just six months after they arrived.
I certainly would choose something else if we could go back. It's a shame, because we were hoping these would be something we could use for years to come."

The Good and the Bad

"I don't ever write reviews, but the design of this unit is soooooo poor, I felt I needed to share my experience with others. First... the good then the bad.
GOOD... quality is amazing. Real wood. Heavy wood. Even the "back panel" (which is usually cardboard) is real wood that needs to be attached with screws. Just outstanding quality.
BAD... worst design ever. Assembly is a nightmare, It took me 2hrs to assemble the entire unit. As a point of comparison, it took me 10hrs to install ALL THE CABINETS when I renovated my kitchen (19 total cabinets). The "top" is easy. It's the bottom "drawer" that is horrible. You have to assemble everything (including the drawer, sliders, etc.). And as much as I HATE allen-wrenches (the reason items like this generally take forever to assemble), LoN should have used them more on the base. The screws DO NOT tighten all the way. Not on the drawer, not on the bracket that connects the upper shelves to the bottom drawer. I am a 32-yr old male, 6'-0" and weigh 210lbs and if I couldn't get the screws to tighten, no one will (unless I got a "bum unit"). I actually have 2 blisters on the palm of my hands from trying to tighten all the screws.
In summary. The unit is beautiful (better than the image shown), and the quality is outstanding. But get someone else to assemble it. Or better yet... LoN should redesign the base so it's easier to assemble."

Not the quality I expected
"I'm very disappointment in the quality of the drawers. The "gliders" are a joke! The drawer glides on a piece of wood. Hard to open and close, each time making crackling noise. There is nothing smooth about the way these drawers open and close and unless you align the drawer holding the knob in each hand there is no way you'll be able to close it.
I purchased it for daily toy clean up. I wanted to make it easy for my kids, just throw it in the drawer and call it a day but it turned out it won't work for that purpose. Very flimsy.
Assembly was easy, 30 minutes for each base."

Response from The Land of Nod:By Customer ServiceApril 20, 2011
Nod Note: Wood drawer glides are a traditional way to set drawers and may require waxing or “glide-ease” periodically to counter the effects of expanding and contracting wood. The large size of this drawer does require the use of both knobs when opening and closing.

Purchased white bookcase to go with cube
"Deep shelves, one fixed shelf and one adjustable shelf. Attaches to cube base with two small flat metal brackets at back of cube/book selves. Holes in small metal bracket dont line up with predrilled holes in furniture. Took about 45 minutes to assemble. Overall heavy duty and well made."
