The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle

One night a very lonely firefly goes off in search of friends. Each time he sees a flicker of light he flies off toward it, but none of them turn out to be fireflies. He sees a lantern, an owl's eyes, even headlights shining in the darkness. Will the lonely firefly ever find creatures like himself? good book (but not Eric Carle's best)
"My son liked this book but there was just something about it...it's not as good as some of Eric Carle's other books. You can't go wrong with The Very Hungry Caterpillar or The Very Busy Spider."

good book
"Erik Carle never lets us down. My sons both like this book and especially the light at the end of the book."

Wind down a wound up night!
"My 5 and 3 year old love it when we read this book. I choose it when they are particularly wound up and not really wanting to settle down. We make the noises for each of the light encounters and use our own "props" ~ flashlights, toy cars with noisy engines. And, my son and daughter like to "act out" the dog and cat fight to my owl hootings! We laugh and laugh and get all silly just before we settle in to another hot summer night. And it really helps to have the pickle jar filled with fireflies ~ makes for a happy nightlight :)"

finding friends
"We love to read this book especially in summer when we have real fireflies. We like that we have many things like a candle, cat eyes, car lights etc... that they can recognize while trying to find the fireflies family... the end is great too with flashing lights."

Not my favorite
"I love Eric Carle but I don't love this book as much as his others. The fireflies light up and that is fun for kids, but the story doesn't keep my daughter's attention like other books do."
